Beoplay H5 Unveiled: B&O Play launches first wireless earphones

B&O Play – a sub-unit of luxury Danish AV brand Bang & Olufsen – has released its first ever set of wireless earphones. Best of all, it looks like they’re ready for anything – including the iPhone 7.

With the Beoplay H5 earphones, it seems B&O Play is aiming to make something for audiophiles, fitness fanatics, and daily commuters – all bundled into one sleek package.

They connect to your phone via Bluetooth 4.2, which should make them able to survive a potential iPhone 7-induced 3.5mm apocalypse. A single length of chord connects the two earpieces.

The Beoplay H5 should also be able to survive your fitness regime. That aforementioned cable is encased in braided textile and moulded directly into the textured rubber and polymer ear portions. The manufacturer says that these elements combine to keep sweat and dirt from entering the electronics.

Your workout shouldn’t be outlasting the Beoplay H5 either, as the earphones can last around five hours on a single charge. When it does come time to charge, you won’t have to fiddle with any cables. B&O Play is bundling in a ‘cubic charger,’ which holds the earphones in place using magnetisation.

Speaking of magnetisation, when not in use, the Beoplay H5 doesn’t need to be stuffed into a grotty pocket. Both earpieces are magnetised, so they can be clicked together and worn around the neck.

The nifty tricks don’t stop when it comes to discussing sound, as these earbuds incorporate a variety of sound profiles depending on your activity. Whether you’re working out, commuting, listening to podcasts or relaxing, there’s a specific preset profile for the job that subtly changes the sonics to suit.

These can be switched to in the Beoplay App on your smartphone or Apple Watch. Alternatively, you can use the app to tweak the sound staging yourself, and come up with your own perfect profile. Whatever you choose, the sound profile will be stored locally on the Beoplay H5 itself.

B&O Play is bundling in seven pairs of ear tips – three sizes of Comply Sport memory foam tips, and four of regular silicone tips – so you should be able to get a perfect fit. Meanwhile the Beoplay H5 earphones themselves are available in a choice of two colours – black and dusty rose.

The Beoplay H5 is available in Bang & Olufsen stores and selected third party retailers from today, at a cost of £199. We’re currently putting the earphones through their paces, so keep an eye out for our review.
