The sleek Avegant Glyph VR headset will arrive in the autumn of 2015.

Avegant’s headphones-cum-VR headset, known as the Glyph, should arrive for consumers in Q3 2015.

According to Re/Code sources, pre-orders for the Avegant Glyph VR headset will start at $499 (approx £327) starting now, but that introductory offer will end on January 15.

After that point, pre-order prices will rise to the rather lofty $599 (£394).

Comparatively, the Oculus Rift is currently priced at $350 (£230), while the Samsung Gear VR is $200 (£130).

The Avegant Glyph started its life as a Kickstarter campaign, where the company managed to raise $1.5 million (£985,000) for its so-called “personal theatre” headset in early 2014.

It’s been in development for over two years and combines a flip-down HUD with noise-cancelling audio for that personal theatre experience.

The Glyph uses HDMI input to display anything in your content library, and can even connect to your new console.

It even has integrated 9 Degree of Freedom head-tracker and Point of View (PoV) imaging too.

The Glyph beams 3D images directly onto users’ retinas via the Virtual Retinal Display.

“If it’s headphones it has to be cool,” said Avegant CTO Allan Evans in an inteview. “To be cool, it can’t look like I’m wearing a pope hat.”

It’s definitely one of the best and technically most adaptable of the VR headsets we’ve seen so far, but until we get our hands on it, we’ll have to wait and see.

There’s no word on when and if it will come to UK markets.
