Asus unveils ZenWatch smartwatch at IFA 2014

Asus has launched the much leaked ZenWatch at IFA 2014, its first entry into the wearables market and another new addition to the selection of Android Wear smartwatches on the market.

The ZenWatch is based on a bright, sharp-looking 1.63-inch AMOLED touchscreen, which is housed inside a glass watchface that was a gentle curve. It has a stitched, tan leather strap and a quick release mechanism.

Inside is 512MB of RAM, 4GB of built-in storage and a 1.4Wh battery that Asus claims is good enough for a day of use before it needs recharging. It’s also IP55 water and dust resistant and, of course, is running the Android Wear operating system.

Asus says it will retail for €199, which is around $260 or £160.

As you might expect, Asus touts tight integration with its ZenUI apps and services for Android phones and tablets. This includes the ability to use the watch as a remote control for the camera, so you can frame and capture photos from the phone’s camera from the screen on your ZenWatch.

We’ll be posting our hands-on impressions of the ZenWatch soon, but until then try reading our guide to Android Wear.
