Asus has finally unveiled its much vaunted combined tablet and phone, the Padfone. After numerous design tweaks the hardware has finally been made ready for market, with just a few tiny tweaks left before it hits the market in April.

The final specs run like this.

The phone runs on a dual-core Qualcomm processor and features a 4.3in Super AMOLED display and an 8MP camera. Gone are the physical navigation buttons of previous iterations to instead be replaced by Android 4.0 loving touch buttons. The phone is also quite slim and attractive with a matching concentric circle pattern on the back that also matches that on the back of the tablet.

The tablet houses the dock for the phone and features a 10.1in Super IPS screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Dock the phone into the back of the tablet and it will extend your phone's life by five times as well as kick the phone's interface into tablet mode. Here, as well as simply navigating using a bigger screen you also get tablet optimised app layouts just as you do on a normal tablet.

Aother trick is that if you dock the phone mid-video it will continue playing back in fullscreen on the tablet.

Newly announced is that you'll also be able to get a Transformer style dock for the Padfone, extending its battery life another two fold as well as adding a laptop-like keyboard.

There are still many arguments as to whether the Padfone is really a practical idea but at least we're a step closer to being able to find out.

We've got hands on with the latest version of the Padfone and will be updating our previous First Look with our latest thoughts just as soon as we can.
