The Nokia Lumia 1020...sorry we mean Asus ZenFone Zoom

Asus just unveiled two new smartphones at CES 2015 over in Las Vegas – the ZenFone 2 and the ZenFone Zoom.

The ZenFone 2 is the successor to last year’s ZenFone, and packs some fairly solid specs.

For starters, it runs a 5.5-inch display with a full HD resolution, rounding out to 403 pixels-per-inch.

Inside sits a quad-core 64-bit Intel Atom processor, which helps the ZenFone 2 stand out from the rest of the Snapdragon-toting Android crowd.

There’s also a meaty 3000mAh battery on board, which Asus reckons will keep the ZenFone 2 chugging along for north of a day’s use.

In terms of operating system, the ZenFone 2 runs with Google’s latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, albeit with the Asus ZenUI skin overlaid.

Next up is the ZenFone Zoom, a quirky rethink of the ZenFone 2 targeted at happy snappers and certainly the more interesting of the pair.

The specs remain largely similar, but the camera has seen a serious upgrade compared to its doppelganger sibling.

While the ZenFone 2 touts a fairly prosaic 13-megapixel camera, the ZenFone Zoom opts for a more substantial 13-megapixel snapper with a 10 element lens.

Pair that with 3x optical zoome and optical image stablisation and you’ve got a serious rear-facing shooter on hand.

The back of the Zoom is reminiscent of the Nokia Lumia 1020 and its giant camera bulge, so those who prefer more subtle design might feel more at home with the less obtuse ZenFone 2.

We’re not yet privy to pricing and availability, but we’ll keep you posted as we find out more.
