Asus Eee Pad Slider Coming Next Month

Asus Eee Pad Slider

It has been eight months since Asus unveiled its new range of tablets, and while the Eee Pad Transformer has emerged as one of the main rivals to the iPad, there has been little or no sign of another of the tablets, the Eee Pad Slider.

The Eee Pad Slider is a tablet which takes it cues from the slide-out QWERTY phones we’ve become very used to, but upscales it to tablet form. A full QWERTY keyboard slides out from behind the 10.1in Gorilla Glass screen, creating a device that will happily sit upright of its own accord to allow for an easy typing and viewing angle (up to 178 degrees according to Asus). Now reports suggest it may finally be arriving in September.

According to Notebook Italia, the Slider will make an appearance on shelves next month in Italy, and it's safe to assume elsewhere in Europe too. The Slider will come in two variations, 32GB and 64GB with the former costing €479 and the latter costing €599 when launched.

The speculation that the Slider is on its way is backed up by Asus putting live the product page on its website. The page confirms a number of specs relating to the tablet, including the presence of a 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, Android 3.1 (with an update to 3.2 promised), 1GB of RAM, 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, USB 2.0, mini-HDMI, microSD card reader, WiFi and Bluetooth.

The Slider is certainly something new in the Android tablet space and offers yet another option for those looking to combine the portability of a tablet with the functionality of a laptop. Let us know if you think the Eee Pad Slider can emulate the success of its sibling, the Transformer or if you think it’s just another gimmick.
