It's a nightmare scenario: you've just spent north of £600 on a new phone, only to drop it and smash the screen. How can you avoid it?
The Astracase Moi is one way. It's a bizarre-looking add-on that promises you'll never drop your phone again. It clips on the back, then you thread your finger through the hole to get a good grasp. Then it'll be safe in your hand, even if someone barges into you.
It works for right- and left-handed people, and fits any phone that's 4.7 inches large or bigger. It's made of metal and silicon and doubles as a kickstand for standing up your phone on the table.
The makers claim it also reduces stress on your hand, so you can browse, text and social network for longer without ache.
The firm's argument is a sound one: it says that modern smartphones are very easy to drop, which is true. But we're not sure this is the best solution. It adds a fair bit of bulk to the back of your handset for starters, making it look unsightly. And who wants to add an ugly accessory to their shiny new phone?
We think a decent case would be a much better bet. But if you disagree, pledge $15 (£11) and one can be yours. If it hits its funding goal, that is. At time of writing it'd raised only $430 of a $10,000 target.
If successful, it will ship in May.
