Ubisoft has released an Assassin’s Creed Unity patch that removes the requirement to use the companion app.
The latest Assassin’s Creed patch unlocks all the rewards previously tied to the Assassin’s Creed companion app and Initiates website.
Previously, you would need to go to the companion app unlock blue chests dotted around the map in the main game, which is quite a pain for those looking to get that Platinum achievement.
Those blue chests contain in-game money and new equipment. You’ll even find that the custom outfit of Altair from the original Assassin’s Creed is hidden in one of them.
The new Unity patch, available now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, also removes the need to log into the Initiates website altogether, which is used to track your progress across all Assassin’s Creed games.
You would need to go to the Initiates website to unlock the gold chests in the Assassin’s Creed Unity main game, which again offer you in-game cash and certain outfits from other major protagonists in the AC game series.
Many players objected to the fact some content was locked away in this manner, so Ubisoft has issued this patch to fix the content block among other things.

Since Unity’s launch late last year, the Initiates website has suffered from major connection issues, which meant it failed to track your progress correctly.
Due to this, Ubisoft pulled the Initiates service just before Christmas for maintenance. It hasn’t made a recovery yet. The gold chests have been unlockable since the time it was taken down.
