Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag to be Xbox One and PS4 launch title

Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will be a launch title for the next-generation Xbox One and PS4 consoles.

Ashraf Ismail, Game Director for Ubisoft, revealed the Xbox One and PS4 will both be treated to Assassin’s Creed 4 from launch.

“We are launch titles for those platforms,” said Ismail.

The Xbox One release date was confirmed for November this year by Microsoft during E3. Sony has still yet to offer a more concrete PS4 release date than the loose “holidays 2013” period.

Ubisoft has also revealed that the PC edition of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will arrive a “few weeks” after the current generation console release on November 1.

“We’re working hard on the PC version. It’s one of the main platforms we work on in the office. For our PC fans, don’t worry. The game on PC looks phenomenal.”

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will take the series in a new direction, focusing on open sea battles and seamless transitions between ground and naval gameplay.

Focusing on the story of protagonist Edward Kenway, a pirate with the charisma and personality of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag offers the most vast and diverse world of the entire Assassin’s Creed series.

The game will take place in 50 Caribbean locales including underwater shipwrecks via the new diving mode, wild jungles, the classic rooftops and forests.

“Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will merge ground gameplay and naval gameplay, so you will be able – totally seamlessly, without any loading – to go from your ship to ground, from ground to ship and from ship to ship,” said Ubisoft’s Creative Director for Assassin’s Creed 4. “You will be able to start the mission on ground, continue it directly at sea and maybe finish it on another island. This type of experience, of missions, is totally new in the brand.”
