Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag new screenshot reveal merciless combat scenes
New Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag screenshots have revealed that the series’ next instalment will feature sections of cut-throat violence and stealth combat.
The pictures, which appeared on the Chilean version of the Assassin’s Creed Facebook page, depict protagonist Edward Kenway dual wielding pirate cutlasses beheading a soldier, shooting out another soldier’s kneecaps and even preparing for a stealth kill without the trademark assassin’s hood.
From the screenshots, although some are concept art for the game, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag looks to be a much more bloodthirsty affair than the series’ previous titles, probably bringing it in line with the game’s pirate theme.
As further supported by the latest batch of screenshots, Assassin’s Creed 4 will be a pirate adventure set in the 1700s across 50 tropical Caribbean locations. The new images show a snapshot of one of the primary urban locales, Cuba’s capital Havana, but other locations will include the Jamaican capital of Kingston, underwater shipwrecks, wild jungles and the pirate haven Nassau.
The new game picks up on one of the more successful elements of Assassin’s Creed 3, the open sea battles. Expect Black Flag to feature many more sea battles, all far more involved and detailed than those seen in Assassin’s Creed 3. The seas will also play other non-violent roles in the new game, including exploration and diving sections, where the player will manoeuvre Edward Kenway through the treasure troves of sunken shipwrecks or discover hidden coves.
The new protagonist is Edward Kenway, the grandfather of Assassin’s Creed 3’s American Civil War hero Connor Kenway. Similar in character to series’ favourite Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Edward Kenway is defiant, drunken and often brash, but with charisma and intellect to boot. He is captain of the Jackdaw, a pirate ship that can be upgraded to pack all the ammo and equipment Kenway needs to fight off enemy armadas.
On his person, Kenway will be able to pack a duo of swords and up to four pistols. Kenway will also have advice and help from notorious pirate types like Blackbeard, Calico Jack and Charles Vane.
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will be released on current generation consoles in the UK on November 1. The series’ newest edition will also launch on the next-gen PS4 and potentially the Xbox 720.
