Archos jumps on bandwagon with its own VR headset

Archos has launched its own virtual reality headset, offering a cheap alternative to Samsung and Oculus.

The tech firm’s ‘VR Glasses’ retail at a paltry £24.99 and will start shipping in November.

Loic Porier, CEO of Archos, says the firm’s entered the VR space as a result of digital content going through ‘lots of revolutions lately.’

Virtual Reality is another one that we help sharing with people by providing high quality yet attainable devices.

The headset works by docking your smartphone – anything up to six inches– and promises to work across Android, Windows Phone, and iOS.

Archos recommends that your blower packs a full HD 5-inch display, a quad-core processor or higher, and motion sensor tech for an optimum VR experience.

There’s also an upcoming Archos Video Player update that’ll let users view 3D videos in stereoscopic mode through the headset.

“The glasses will provide an affordable look into the immersive world of virtual reality, making cutting-edge technology more universally available,” says the electronics company.

The device is a direct competitor to Samsung’s Gear VR headset and the Oculus Rift, both of which make use of smartphones as screens.
