Apple won’t be happy about this Swiss watch

The notoriously litigious Apple has proven time and time again that it is not to be trifled with when it comes to patents and copyright.

Despite the Cupertino-based company’s long history of legal action, Swiss watchmaker H. Moser & Cie has decided to ‘borrow’ some design features from the Apple Watch for its latest design.

The ‘Swiss Alp’ watch is entirely mechanical, and is the company’s response to the increasingly popular smart watch market.

As the company website says: “Rather than create a model with an electronic heart trying to look like a mechanical watch, H. Moser & Cie. has chosen to do the opposite: the Swiss Alp Watch is inspired by the modern design of smartwatches, but is entirely mechanical.”

Anyone thinking of trading in their Apple Watch for the Swiss Alp might want to reconsider as the fine timepiece comes with a price tag of $25,000 (£17,150), far beyond the Apple Watch’s starting point of £479.

H. Moser & Cie says that the watch represents the ‘fighting spirit’ of a watch maker fighting back against the rise of the smart watch.

Let’s hope that fighting spirit proves resilient enough when Apple inevitably launch legal action.
