Apple Watch unlikely to be your Valentine’s Day gift

After missing out on the holiday spending spree by delaying the Apple Watch release date, Cupertino may also be flirting dangerously with missing the first big present-giving affair of 2015.

According to a report on The Information website, a source briefed by the Apple department involved in shipping claimed the firm would be “lucky to ship it by Valentine’s Day.”

So far, Apple has only committed to an early 2015 launch schedule, which would suggest sometime within the first three months of the year.

Speculation all year had suggested Apple had planned to get its first wearable out before the end of 2014, but reports towards this month’s unveiling began to suggest a delay might be on the cards.

According to today’s report, the delay may be down to issues completing the Apple Watch software than any delays in building the smart watches in their various guises.

Speculation suggesting the software was still someway off a final release began at the unveiling when members of the media were not allowed to play with demo units running the Watch OS software and were instead talked through the features.

Watches on display at the event only showed screenshots of the apps rather than the real deal.
