Report: Apple Watch 2 to debut by June next year

Details on the rumoured second-generation Apple Watch are beginning the trickle out.

A new report suggests the next-generation Apple wearable could arrive as soon as June next year.

That puts the device at a slightly later release date than its predecessor.

The information comes courtesy of China’s United Daily News, which cites Apple supplier Quanta’s chairman Barry Lam as the source.

The chairman reportedly stated that he expected Apple Watch shipments “to grow considerably next year”.

He also clued a release timeframe, as the report explains:

Quanta and Apple are currently developing the second-generation of the Apple Watch, expected late next year in the second quarter.”

However, the report also noted that the Apple Watch would only begin shipping in a “small volume” in the third quarter of 2016.

Unfortunately, Apple has yet to make any official announcements on the matter, so we’ll be in the dark for a while.

It’s also worth noting that the device may not even be called the Apple Watch 2, and could instead land as simply the ‘new Apple Watch’ – just like the iPad 3 and the 12-inch MacBook.
