Apple Watch gets a new name, new CPU and a smaller price tag

Apple has just announced the Apple Watch Series 2, but it hasn’t abandoned the original Apple Watch.

Instead of being relegated to the past, the first-generation Apple Watch will remain on sale, repositioned as the junior model in the new Apple Watch range. It’s getting a new name, too: Apple Watch Series 1.

It’s also receiving an upgrade, and will feature the same dual-core processor as the Apple Watch Series 2, which will make it 50% faster. Sadly, the Series 1 won’t have the waterproofing capabilities of the Series 2, so you won’t be able to take it swimming.

The Apple Watch Series 1 has a lower price tag of £269/$269. Pre-orders begin on Friday 9 September.
