Apple Watch compatibility announced, goes beyond iPhone 6

Apple has announced the full list of Apple Watch compatible devices ahead of the phone’s release date early next year.

Although the Apple Watch was announced alongside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, you’ll be able to use Apple’s new wearable with a wider range of devices.

Along with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, you’ll be able to use the Apple Watch with the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5.

Apple didn’t specify that the older iPhones would need to run iOS 8, but we’d hazard a guess that you’ll need to update to the latest OS prior to using the Watch.

The Apple Watch will be offered in three packages, the Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and the 18 carat gold Apple Watch Edition.

It will go on sale in early 2015 with a retail price starting at $349, which equates to around £220 in the UK. We’d suppose that this won’t be a direct conversion though, so you’re probably looking at a UK price of around £300.
