Apple to release 5-inch iPhone next year?

Apple is set to launch a new 5-inch iPhone next year, industry analysts have predicted ahead of this Tuesday’s iPhone 5S release.

With the Cupertino based company having confirmed early this week that it will unveil its new flagship iPhone 5S and budget iPhone 5C on Tuesday, September 20, insiders have now stated the within the coming year Apple will launch a 5-inch iPhone.

Although far from official, KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a repeated Apple tipster, has claimed in a note to investors that both a 4.5-inch and 5-inch iPhone will be released in the coming year as Apple looks to stave off the rise of Android powerhouses.

A device that would seemingly see the iPad mini maker bow to the pressures of the rival Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One and LG G2, a 5-inch iPhone would fit with current trends that have seen 5-inch devices become the norm for flagship models. At present the 4-inch iPhone 5 is dwarfed by the leading Android phones.

Following claims from the WSJ earlier this week that Apple is current testing a 6-inch iPhone that would go head-to-head with the newly unveiled Samsung Galaxy Note 3, word of a 5-inch iPhone comes just days before two new handsets are unveiled by Apple.

Although suggesting a 5-inch phone is in the works, Kuo has rubbished claims that a 6-inch handset could be on the horizon stating Apple has an “unwavering principle of one hand use.”

This week’s September 10 iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C unveiling will reportedly be followed by an in-store launch the following week. An iPhone 5S release date has been pegged as September 20.

While the iPhone 5S is expected to boast a faster, quad-core processor, iOS 7 and improved camera optics over its predecessor, the iPhone 5C has been tipped to sport an array of specs similar to that of the iPhone 5 just wrapped within a cheaper, plastic body.
