Apple Store app’s latest feature is creepy but genius

Apple has updated its Apple Store app with a new feature that recommends items based on products you already own. Sounds creepy, right?

The latest update for the Apple Store app – version 4.0 – now allows the discovery of the device you’re using, and suggest other Apple products that you might like. For instance, if you’ve bought an iPhone 6S, it might suggest an accessory like a case or camera attachment. Similarly, if you’ve got the iPad Pro, the app might suggest a Smart Keyboard accessory.

Apple’s version update changelog reads:

"Get recommendations and shop for new products based on what works with the Apple devices you already own."

You can find the new recommendations in the Discover section of the app. If you find the whole thing creepy however, then you can disable Apple’s access to your device model number in the settings.

The new update went live this week, and also added a new Account tab for easily managing your profile. The app will also show off “helpful workshops and exciting events” that are happening at your nearest Apple Store, if you’re into that kind of thing.

The Apple Store app lets you buy products online, directly from Apple. It weighs in at a fairly light 30.3MB, and even works on the Apple Watch. To use the app, you need to be running a device with iOS 9.0 or later. The current version has 3.5 out of 5 stars based on 87 ratings. All versions to date have scored 3.5 out of 5 stars, based on a total of 54,300 ratings.
