Apple’s first original TV show will be a drama starring Dr. Dre

Last month we reported on rumours Apple is working on its own original TV shows to help kickstart its expansion into pay TV. Now we might know the first project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vital Signs will be a semi-autobiographical drama starring none other than Apple executive Dr. Dre.

The ‘dark’ drama – with no shortage of violence and sex, according to the report – will feature the rapper and Beats co-founder in the starring role.

The report says each half-hour episode will focus on a different emotion “and how Dre’s character deals with it.”
Apparently, Sam Rockwell is also signed on as part of the cast.

The production is being bankrolled by Apple, the Hollywood Reporter says, with the series likely to be distributed via Apple Music, which seems strange.

It would probably be more likely to launch as part of a brand new pay TV platform, as has been rumoured in recent months.

Apple’s plans to use Dre would make more sense given he’s now a company man, these days.

The firm released his latest solo album Compton on Apple Music before it went on sale, and also put a few dollars in his back pocket with the purchase of Beats in 2014.

Recent reports have suggested Apple is moving into original content as it seems to boost a yet-to-launch tv streaming service.

Apple has struggled to bring content creators and networks on board, so may be resorting to make the shows itself.
