Apple promises iWork updates
Apple has responded to widespread complaints surrounding missing features in the latest iWork suite of productivity apps for Mac.
The company launched a completely revamped version of iWork for free on October 22, which was the same day it launched OS X Mavericks. The new versions of Pages, Numbers, and Keynote sport a refreshed and largely simplified design more in keeping with iOS 7.
Indeed, the new versions were completely rewritten from the ground up to be fully 64-bit, as well as to support a unified file format between OS X and iOS 7.
However, it was soon noticed that a number of advanced features present in previous versions of iWork had been removed. Pages, in particular, saw the toolbar functionality stripped right back and a number of formatting options plain removed.
In response to these complaints, Apple has released a statement on its support page. It claims that it will restore many of the lost iWorks functions over the next six months.
“We plan to reintroduce some of these features in the next few releases and will continue to add brand new features on an ongoing basis,” it said.
Apple then goes on to list some of these additions, including toolbar customisations for all three programs, vertical ruler for Pages and more. The post also points out that you can still access all of these ‘lost’ features on your Mac, as iWorks ’09 is still present.
So if you’re miffed over a major feature omission in iWork ’13, don’t worry. Apple’s on the case.
