Apple Pay coming to countries outside the US in March?

We might not have long to wait for Apple Pay to hit UK shores. One report claims the service could roll out internationally as soon as March.

According to sources speaking to 9to5Mac, Apple and its Canadian partners are planning advertising and promotional material for March, hinting that’s when the international rollout could start.

Of course, that doesn’t mean us Brits will get the service then. But it’s the closest we’ve come to a confirmed release date.

Apple launched the service in the US in October. It promises to be a secure and convenient way to pay for goods and services using your iPhone or Apple Watch. Last week, the Cupertino company claimed to support cards that make up around 90 per cent of US credit cards by transaction volume. It will soon support more than 500 banks in the US.

About a month ago, Apple posted a job advert for a London-based staffer to work on Apple Pay’s global rollout. It then pulled the advert. Which means either things didn’t go to plan, or it wanted to keep its cards close to its chest.

It posted similar adverts to recruit people in the Middle East, India and Asia.

While the service has only officially launched in the US, card-carrying members can use it abroad.

The Apple Watch is also set to launch sometime early this year. Could Apple do a double whammy and hit us with the wearable and Apple Pay at the same time? Here’s hoping.
