Report: Barclays to support Apple Pay in UK in 2016

Banks in the UK were keen to sign up to Apple Pay, but Barclays has been an odd absentee from the platform’s wide roster of supporters.

As such, those banking with Barclays in the UK have been unable to make use of Apple’s contactless mobile payments platform.

Fortunately, it appears that Barclays may soon adopt the service, if a new blog post is to be believed.

Mike Jobson, an AMX and Crestron programmer, says Barclay’s CEO of Retail Banking in the UK has responded to a complaint e-mail, confirming the imminent launch of Apple Pay support.

Jobson messaged to Ashok Vaswani condemning the “complete lack of attention and care” paid to customers regarding the absence of Apple Pay support.

In an apparent reply to the e-mail, Vaswani said:

“We have signed up for Apple Pay and will launch it very early in the New Year.”

The Barclays banking boss reportedly continued: “We truly value your custom and hope that you continue to bank with us particularly since we are launching this shortly.”

We called the Barclays press team for comment on whether the claims in the blog are true, and we’re waiting on a response.
