Apple News goes live in the UK

Apple has launched its newsfeed aggregator Apple News in the UK today.

The app brings together 14 UK newspaper and magazine publishers including the Telegraph, Guardian, and Financial Times.

Apple News is designed as a one-stop news service, along the lines of Flipboard, that brings together content from all publishers who have signed up.

It was previously made available in other countries earlier this year but the UK has had to wait until today for the launch.

Chinese iOS users will be without the app as it has reportedly been disabled in their country.

It was initially unclear as to why users in mainland China couldn’t access the news app but according to a New York Times report Apple had disabled it for Chinese users to get around “strict rules governing media and online expression there.”

The new app replaces the Apple Newsstand service and is available now for UK iPhone and iPad users as part of the iOS 9.1 update.

Other publishers involved include Trinity Mirror, Vanity Fair owner Condé Nast, and Time Inc. which means that TrustedReviews will be part of the Apple News service.
