Apple Music is coming to Sonos, and it may be sooner than you think

Sonos is the crème de la crème of multi-room music streaming, so when Apple Music was announced earlier this month, we all had one question in mind: will it be available on Sonos speakers?

The answer is seemingly yes, as Apple confirmed over the weekend that we’d be seeing Sonos, albeit not necessarily soon.

We’re working together to make Apple Music available on Sonos before the end of the year,” Apple reportedly told Buzzfeed News.

What’s more, ex Beats Music CEO and now Apple Music senior director Ian Rogers tweeted the following in response to a request for Sonos partnership: “It will be ASAP, but not at launch.”

This means that we at least know Apple Music will land on Sonos during 2015, although an exact release date remains elusive for now.

The now largely defunct Beats Music did have Sonos support, but this is the first we’ve heard from Apple about its own service shipping on the multi-room system.

Sonos, however, has already spoken out about its eagerness to work with Apple on the fast-approaching streaming service.

“We are big fans of Apple, so we would of course embrace them any time they want to come into the home, but I think that will be the next priority for them,” explained the company’s chief executive John MacFarlane, speaking earlier this month.

He added: “You have to earn Apple’s cooperation, they don’t just give it to you for free, but if there’s a delightful user experience and it makes a lot of sense, I think they do it, and there’s lots of examples of that. I think if it’s less than that, then they don’t.”

Apple Music is set to launch tomorrow as part of the iOS 8.4 update, bringing with it a new 24/7 radio station called Beats 1.
