Apple has served up a list of the Apple Watch applications every buyer of the new wearable should have in their arsenal.
The tailored App Store for the smartwatch is expected to go live later today ahead of Friday’s release date.
Apple’s top picks, which will presumably sit in a ‘featured’ section on the App Store, were handed over to BuzzFeed News on Thursday containing some obvious and not so obvious selections.
For weather tracking, Apple is recommending the delightful Dark Sky, which is a minimalist app that, among other things, tells people when it’s going to rain and how long for.
The firm seems to like Elevate for brain training, Mint for personal finance, Target for shopping and Pacemaker for musical playlists.
There’s also a selection of fitness apps like Fitstar Yoga, Strava for running and Golfshot for tracking… well, golf. Centred will guide users through their meditation and Lifesum will help them keep track of their caloric intake.
Meanwhile, there’s special mentions for Twitter, Yelp, the New York Times and Instagram, but isn’t there always?
Of course, these watch apps won’t be available as standalone items. As the Apple Watch doesn’t store the apps themselves, the content is bundled within iPhone apps users will need to download to the smartphone.
The article says around 2,000 apps will go live on the store later today, as the hours tick down on arguably the most important gadget release of 2015.
