Apple revealed a new version of the Smart Cover iPad case at WWDC 2012. This updated version offers protection for the tablet’s rear as well as its front.
The original Smart Cover is an exceedingly neat iPad accessory, but it’s not perfect. It only protects the front of the device, for one. Apple has now revealed an altogether more practical version of the cover, with rear protection.
It retains the front flap and “smart” functionality of the original – using magnets to take the iPad in and out of sleep mode as the cover is moved – but now includes a polyurethane layer for the back of the tablet. The Smart Cover doubles as a stand too, the
front folding up into a supportive triangle.
The new Smart Cover will sell for £39.99 and comes in six colours, including light grey, dark grey, blue, green, pink, and red. This includes laser engraving, letting you customise the case a tad.
Alongside the Smart Cover, Apple unveiled refreshed Mac and MacBook models, and iOS 6.
