Apple must be paying some attention to the many calls from
frustrated iPhone users for some form of universal connector on its handsets, as it has finally revealing an offiial micro USB adapter.
Apple’s proprietary dock connector has for years been the bane
of many people’s lives, particularly when they run out of battery while away
from home, only to find no one in the vicinity has an Apple charger. While micro USB connetors are still not the single universal charging port of choice, they are becoming more and more pervasive.
Now, for just £8, iPhone users will be able to purchase the official
adapter from Apple to allow them use any micro USB charger to power up their
phone. Of course third party solutions have been available for some time but
this solution from Apple itself seems like the most elegant.
In the grand scheme of things of course simply having a micro
USB connector as standard on the iPhone would make the most sense, but that’s
just not the Apple way unfortunately.
The Apple iPhone Micro USB adapter will be available on 14 October
and will be compatible with the iPhones 3G, 3GS, 4 and 4S.
