Apple has added a new section to the iTunes store in the US, allowing users to access free content like TV show episodes and music.
The ‘Free on iTunes’ page, as spotted by a 9to5Mac reader, features a selection of content folks can browse and download without parting with any cash.
Episodes of new TV shows like 12 Monkeys, Backstorm and Eye Candy are available free of charge, while tracks from bands like Machine Head and Asking Alexandria can also be grabbed gratis.
For example, television producers can offer access to the first couple of episodes of their show in order to attract others to buy the rest.
Right now there’s no movies, music videos of full albums up for grabs as there’d be less inventive for content owners to give up the whole package.

The Free on iTunes portal follows Apple’s decision to stop offering a free single of the week earlier this month. The new page is only available in the United States right now, but it surely won’t be too long before Apple rolls it out in other territories.
