Apple just secretly admitted that the Jet Black iPhone 7 will scratch really easily

iPhone 7 Plus

Apple is obviously extremely proud of the new Jet Black iPhone 7. The new hue was pretty much the first thing the company mentioned in a dedicated, Jony Ive-narrated promo video after announcing the name.

However, it’s debatable whether that beautiful, glossy anodized finish will remain pristine for long unless iPhone 7 buyers keep it wrapped in a case.

Buried in the fine print of the iPhone 7 website, Apple admits that the finish may be more prone to scratching than other handsets in the range.

“The high-gloss finish of the Jet Black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process,” the company writes.

Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.”

While this is hardly antenna-gate, we could see this being an issue that iPhone 7 buyers become a little upset about and begin complaining about en-masse. Alternately, it may result in buyers steering clear of this model altogether.

Strictly speaking, it’s not that big of a deal, considering most prudent iPhone owners ruin the aesthetics with less than attractive cases anyway.

Typical, the only nice colour choice and you have to hide it

That, and it also comes with an IP67 rating that doesn't hold water, and an optical zoom that isn't.
