Apple could be launching the heavily rumoured Apple Watch with a flexible display in a range of three different screen sizes.
According to industry sources, Apple is preparing a wrist-worn smart device with a “plastic OLED monitor that can be bent”.
Speaking to Korean news body Chosun Ilbo, the source suggested that the Apple iWatch will be smaller than the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Gear, with Apple toying with three screen sizes for the device.
The Apple iWatch could launch in 1.3-, 1.4- and 1.5-inch models, all smaller than the 1.63-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen of the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
“A prototype of the 1.5-inch has already been made”, the source added.
There is no anticipated Apple iWatch release date as yet, but analysts have already predicted it won’t launch until early next year at the earliest.
Samsung Galaxy Gear Features
Launched at the Samsung Unpacked event at IFA 2013, the Galaxy Gear is Samsung’s first smartwatch and comes with a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display with a 320 x 320p resolution.
Currently only compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the 2014 edition of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Galaxy Gear incorporates a 1.9-megapixel camera and integrated stereo speakers.
Running on a relatively low-end 800MHz processor, the Galaxy Gear uses Bluetooth 4.0 and has 4GB of internal storage.
Currently the functionality of the Galaxy Gear is a little limited, with the smartwatch capable of making calls, taking photographs and simply functioning as a watch. Other functionality is provided by apps like eBay and Evernote.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear is made from aluminium and weighing in at 74g it comes in six colours – Jet Black, Mocha Grey, Rose Gold, Wild Orange, Oatmeal Beige and Lime Green.
Retailing for a jaw dropping £299, anyone purchasing theGalaxy Gear with the Galaxy Note 3 will get a £100 discount.
