Apple Watch, the heavily rumoured wrist-worn gadget from the maker of the iPhone 5 and iPad mini is ‘at least three years away’ industry sources have suggested.
Speaking on a recent spate of Apple iWatch rumours, Corning, one of Apple’s current suppliers and the makers of Willow glass, the flexible display technology tipped to feature within the Apple-branded wearable tech, have suggested such products are still three years away.
Although suggesting that flexible display technologies are still sometime off being ready for a device as complex as the wraparound, wrist-mounted Apple iWatch recently teased in a selection of Apple patents, Corning has suggested the Willow glass tech could be used on simple devices later this year.
“People are not accustomed to glass you roll up” Corning head James Clappin said in a recent interview. “The ability of people to take this and use it to make a product is limited.”
Apple iWatch Rumours
Despite latest reports suggesting an Apple iWatch device is still at least three years away, recent Apple iWatch rumours have suggested that the company’s first wearable gadget could be with us sooner than expected. A late 2013 Apple iWatch release date has previously been tipped.
Suggesting that Apple is in an advanced stage of development with the Apple iWatch, previous reports from unnamed insider sources have claimed the the Cupertino-based tech behemoth has assigned a 100-strong team to the as yet unconfirmed device, a team consisting of “managers, members of the marketing group, and software and hardware engineers who previously worked on the iPhone and iPad.”
Tipped to play host to a 1.5-inch touchscreen display, further Apple iWatch rumours have claimed the futuristic gadget will offer instant access to messaging and alert details, as well as syncing wirelessly, via Bluetooth, to user’s iPhone handsets. As well as allowing users to make and receive calls remotely, it is believed the device will play host to the company’s voice activated personal assistant, Siri.
