As Apple iPhone 5 rumours continue to emerge, latest reports have suggested the eagerly awaited handset will touch down later this year with a September 21st iPhone 5 release date the latest speculative time of arrival.

With Apple keeping the official iPhone 5 release date well under wraps, latest reports have suggested the long anticipated handset will be officially unveiled on Wednesday September 12 with the Samsung Galaxy S3 rival to hit retailers just nine days later on September 21st.

Citing “sources who have proven accurate in the past,” iMore has suggested the iPhone 4S follow-on will make its first official outing early in September with the handset to be formally showcased by Apple CEO Tim Cook alongside the heavily mooted Apple iPad mini 7-inch tablet.

With a number of claimed iPhone 5 prototypes hitting the web in recent weeks, offering a tantalising insight into the possible revamped form factor of the next-gen handset, latest iPhone 5 rumours have hinted Apple’s sixth-generation portable blower will land with a larger, 4-inch Retina display and the WWDC 2012 unveiled iOS 6 operating system.

Whilst the standard collection of faster processor, improved graphics and revamped camera optics are all tipped for the upcoming iPhone 5 specs sheet, much rumour mill attention has also been turned to claims of a smaller 7.85-inch tablet coming from Apple’s Cupertino campus with the iPad mini said to be readying for launch as a cut-price Google Nexus 7 competitor.

Unlike its third-generation 9.7-inch new iPad sibling, the reported iPad mini is said to be a wallet-friendly option that will do away with the Retina display in favour of a cheaper component. A heavily speculated inclusion for both the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini is the introduction of a new, slimmed down dock connector with Apple’s longstanding 30-pin offering reportedly set to make way for a new 19-pin standard.
