iPhone and iPad users hoping for another wave of new features when the company announces iOS 9 this summer may want to reel in those expectations somewhat, judging by reports Monday.
According to 9to5Mac sources, the world’s most valuable company is putting most of its energy into stabilising and optimising the mobile operating system after rapidly racking up a laundry list of new features in recent releases.
The report says Apple is focusing on “under the hood improvements” to boost the overall performance of iOS, which has suffered in recent years due to the myriad of new elements added.
The company is said to be placing “huge” emphasis on squashing bugs, improving the stability of core apps, while ensuring performance boosts across the board.

The revelations are no surprise given the overhaul iOS has had since the launch of iOS 7 in 2013, when Apple gave the OS its first real redesign with new features like Touch ID, Control Centre and a brand new Notifications Centre.
Last year’s iOS 8 update also included the likes of Car Play, Health, Apple Pay and Watch Kit. With all of those new features in place and now in need of developments, it would be prudent of Apple to focus on general improvements rather than add more new toys to the play pen.
