Apple has rolled out the latest version of iOS 8 to its army of developers with a pledge to improve the software’s usability on legacy devices.
According to Apple’s release notes iOS 8.1.1 is brimming with bug fixes and performance enhancements that could rescue those who’ve struggled since downloading iOS 8.
The company mentions the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S in particular, the oldest of the devices Apple had sanctioned for the iOS 8 update.
Following complains from users of those models since downloading iOS 8, Apple says iOS 8.1.1 “includes bug fixes, increased stability and performance improvements for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.”
However, given some of the teething problems the firm has experienced with iOS 8, the decision to give developers the chance to iron out any problems isn’t all that surprising.
The firm was forced to pull HealthKit apps on the iOS 8 release date, while the launch of iOS 8.0.1 saw TouchID and cellular connectivity compromised for some users. iOS 8.0.2 appeared to stabilise things for users, while iOS 8.1 brought Apple Pay into Play.
Apple is working on iOS 8.2 and 8.3, with a launch expected next year.
