Apple has just hired one of Nokia’s Lumia PureView experts to work on its iOS device range.

Although the iPhone 5S is a fairly good smartphone camera, there’s no doubt that Nokia cameras like the 41-megapixel beast included in the Nokia Lumia 1020 is making waves in the industry.

Now it seems Apple is looking to cash in on some of Nokia’s camera expertise.

Apple has hired senior Lumia engineer Ari Partinen, who Nokia calls its “camera expert”.

Partinen’s LinkedIn profile claims he is the “Lumia Photography Lead at Nokia” and has worked with the Finnish company since 2007, which happens to be the year the original iPhone was announced.

“Today will be my last day working for the amazing #Lumia family. In June I will start a new chapter in Cupertino, California. Much love!” wrote Partinen on Twitter.

He then followed up this slightly cryptic tweet with confirmation he will be working for Tim Cook and Co from June.

“It is the company you are thinking assuming you are thinking Apple”.

As for his prior role at Nokia, Partinen states he was working on “image quality verification” as well as other “fields of mobile photography”.

His more current work includes developing “image quality characterisation and tuning on camera module level.”

Earlier this week the USPTO published an Apple patent outlining a way of utilising optical image stabilisation (OIS) to create “super-resolution” images created by taking multiple shots of the same content from slightly different angles, which would then be blended into one high-resolution image.

Although Partinen may be too late to influence the iPhone 6, he will definitely play a large part in the camera features of future Apple devices.

No doubt many key and senior Nokia staff members are weighing up their options following the Microsoft acquisition of Nokia earlier this year.
