Apple has the courage to revolutionise the paper bag

Apple, in its efforts to push innovation to new levels, has plans to revolutionise the humble paper bag, patent records show.

Yes, you read that correctly. Apple really does have a plan to overhaul the common retail bag.

The Cupertino-based company said as much in a patent filing, giving curious readers an overview of what exactly a carrier bag is and what it’s used for:

“Bags are often used for containing items. For example, retail bags may be used to contain items purchased at a retail store.”

Apple PatentSo you… put things in it?

Impressive stuff so far, then. But the thrust of Apple’s patenting seems to be to create a bag as environmentally friendly as possible, using 60% recycled white paper.

According to Apple, a paper bag “can help to reduce any environmental impact from production, use, and disposal of the bag”.

What’s more, the firm plans to use strategically placed corrugated cardboard to keep products safe from damage.

Revolutionaries that they are, Tim Cook and co have also included a plan for a handle. It’ll be formed of paper fibres arranged in an 8 stitch, circular pattern. Don’t worry, we don’t know what that means, either.

Still curious? Here’s the US Patent and Trademark website posting.

Interestingly, the new paper bag design borrows one big feature from the recently released iPhone 7 in that it comes sans headphone jack. Now that’s innovation.
