If you’re eagerly awaiting the iPhone 7, we’ve may have some good news for you.
Apple has kicked off mass-production of the 4.7-inch iPhone 7, according to a new report. Journalist and reputable leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer – better known on Twitter as @Onleaks – claims the final model manufacturing has “slowly started” at the Pegatron factory.
Along with Foxconn, Pegatron is one of Apple’s primary manufacturing partners. It’s a Taiwanese company, although the lion’s share of its employees are based in China. According to Hemmerstoffer, only the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 is being manufactured by Pegatron, not the 5.5-inch ‘Plus’ version. He previously alleged that Foxconn had won the contract for the larger iPhone 7.

Naturally, we can’t verify Hemmerstoffer’s claims and, although he has a great track record for mobile leaks, you should take this report with due caution.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 7 at its annual September product launch. If that’s true, it wouldn’t be surprising for Apple to now be entering the mass-production stage of manufacturing. We’ve already seen an abundance of schematic leaks, which suggests that Apple has already locked down the phone’s design.

It’s rumoured that the iPhone 7 will proffer little in the way of aesthetic changes when compared to the iPhone 6S. Supposed modifications include slightly reworked antenna banding and the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. There’s also been widespread speculation that the iPhone 7 Plus will feature a dual-lens camera, and that both phones will be available in a new ‘Deep Blue’ colour option.
