As expected, Apple has addressed the ongoing issues with the Mail app in OS X Mavericks, which had been struggling to handle Gmail accounts.
The new Mac OS launched on October 22, bringing with it a host of subtle updates and visual tweaks to many of its constituent apps.
One part that didn’t appear to get a massive update – at least externally – was the operating system’s email client, Mail. However, there were clearly significant changes under the hood, as within days complaints began to stream in from those with Gmail accounts.
Mail didn’t seem to play nicely with Gmail at all, causing several syncing issues such as duplicating emails and miscalculating the number of unread emails. Apparently, this was down to the unusual way Gmail uses IMAP.
In addition to these problems, the Mail appeared to have problems with organising and deleting mails in some cases.
We learnt last week that Apple had developed a swift(ish) update to correct these issues, and was in the process of testing it with staff and AppleSeed members.
Now, Apple has issued an update that, primarily, “fixes an issue that prevents deleting, moving, and archiving messages for users with custom Gmail settings.”
It also “addresses an issue that may cause unread counts to be inaccurate” and “includes additional fixes that improve the compatibility and stability of Mail.” In short, it’s fixed Mail.
You can update your faulty Mail app now by going to the App Store and checking the Updates section.
