Apple buries ageing iPad mini without funeral rites
Apple has quietly removed the iPad mini from its website, and will no longer sell the device.
The original miniaturised iPad mini was first revealed in 2012 and we’re not overly surprised to see it discontinued.
While impressive at the time, its 7.9-inch, 1,024 x 768 display looks poor these days, comparing badly with the Retina displays of newer models.
Its disappearance also means that Apple now only stocks 64-bit iPads, all of which either run on an A7 or A8X processor.
You can still buy an original iPad mini from third-party retailers, but only until stock runs out. It’s currently available on Amazon for £195.99.
Of the remaining pair of iPad minis, we’d recommend buying the older version.
The iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3 are very, very similar, though the former lacks Touch ID. As a result, it’s a hell of a lot cheaper.
