Apple has announced the arrival of Apple Music, iTunes Movies, and iBooks in China.
The country is now Apple’s second-biggest market, having overtaken Europe last year. Not only was the country included as a primary launch territory for the first time with the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, but as of today it also has access to Apple’s full media offering.
What’s more, Apple has now revealed that it’s adding local content to its stores to appeal to this vast new audience. Alongside established international artists, for example, “Apple Music in China features music from artists including Eason Chan, Li Ronghao, JJ Lin and G.E.M.”
Similarly, iTunes Movies in China provides access to films “from a great selection of Chinese studios” as well as the usual Hollywood blockbusters.
China already had access to the App Store, where it has swiftly become the biggest downloader of apps in the world.

Apple Music will cost Chinese customers 10 yuan (£1.04) per month to subscribe to, with the same free three-month trial on offer. HD movie rentals, meanwhile, start from 5 yuan (£0.52), and iBooks start from just 0.5 yuan (£0.05).
It’s almost certain that Apple has China to thank for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus beating previous opening weekend sales records. Apple sold 13 million of its latest smartphones in their first weekend on sale, beating last year’s models by 3 million.
