AOC’s latest monitor packs wireless smartphone charging

AOC has just introduced a new monitor that comes with a somewhat novel new design feature attached.

The 27-inch P2779VC features a suitably modern design, with thin bezels and Full HD resolution. Oh, and there’s a Qi Wireless charger in the base.

Yes, the new display will not only display stunning Full HD images using its PLS (Plane to Line Switching) panel, but will also charge your phone while you watch – as long as it has wireless charging capabilities of course.

That means owners of a Galaxy S5, S6, S6 Edge, Google Nexus 4–7, Motorola Droid Maxx, Nokia Lumia 920–1520, and numerous others will be able to juice up their handsets just by placing them on the P2779VC’s base.

If you’re unsure whether your phone supports the Qi Wireless tech, a quick Google search should give you the answer you need.

Wireless charging aside, the monitor’s PLS capabilities ensure you’ll get a 178/178 degree viewing angle with “consistent image quality and colours from all viewing positions.”

With 8-bit colour depth, the monitor should also provide decent colour accuracy, and thanks to the PLS feature, those colours will remain accurate and bright regardless of which angle you view them from – unlike Twisted Nematic panels.

Other specs include a 60Hz refresh rate, 5ms grey-to-grey response time, and VGA and dual HDMI 1.3 inputs round the back.

For now, it looks like the P2779VC will only make it to the US and Canada, as AOC has announced it will launch stateside this month for $249 (about £197).

We’ll keep you updated with any developments, however, so if you’re in the UK make sure to stay tuned.
