Further fines of 3m euros per day threatened.
Park your car badly and you get hit up for £50, become overdrawn on your bank account and you’ll pay an incremental penalty fee, continue to rip off the entire European community with anti-competitive behaviour and get slammed with a 280.5m euro fine. Microsoft you have been a naughty boy…
The verdict comes today after the monolithic software developer was judged not to have complied with an anti-competitive ruling made back in 2004 to provide greater access to its Windows source code for third party developers and debundle Media Player. At the time Evil Lord Redmond was hit by a record 497m euro fine but that clearly hasn’t been motivation enough for it to change its ways according to the European Commission (which is understandable enough given Willy G himself could pay that off out of his spare change).
Consequently Microsoft now has until 31 July to supply “completely and accurate” technical information to rival developers or a subsequent £3m euro per day fine will come into force. According to MS (s)satanist(/s) lawyer Brad Smith the company will appeal the decision based on the original 2004 demand being too vague. Puuuurlease….
“I regret that, more than two years after the decision… Microsoft has still not put an end to its illegal conduct,” EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes said in a statement.
I can’t put into words my (s)dearth of(/s) shock, (s)absence of(/s) horror, and (s)total lack of(/s) disbelief….
