The most popular mobile phone game in the world… ever has been confirmed for release for PS3, Xbox 360 and 3DS later this year. Angry Birds Trilogy is due to launch “this holiday”.
After racking-up more than 500 million downloads worldwide, that Angry Birds would come to the big home consoles was all-but inevitable. Rovio has confirmed that an Angry Birds Trilogy package is due to fly the coop “this holiday”, according to IGN. It’s expected to include the original Angry Birds, Seasons and Rio – suggesting that Angry Birds Space will launch at a later date.
Rovio’s Petri Järvilehto calls the trilogy package an “ultimate collector’s edition” of the game, with “new cinematics, extras and other entertaining content. In addition all of the existing material has been uprezzed and re-treated for the high-resolution and big screen.” Other than making the backgrounds a good deal more active, though, Rovio is expected to keep the game largely the same – Angry Birds isn’t Angry Birds if it isn’t all about bird-flinging.
Angry Birds Trilogy will support Xbox 360’s Kinect and PlayStation Move, which are a better fit for the traditionally touchscreen-operated games than a gamepad. IGN suggests that each platform will get a full retail release, rather than an online download, although at this point we don’t know whether each will include the hundreds of levels added to the iOS versions through updates, over the years.
