Google is set to bring a couple of exciting new features to Android Wear, according to a new report.
The Android Wear platform launched at Google I/O 2014 just over a year ago, and we’re expecting to see the next major edition of Google’s wearable OS soon.
According to Phandroid, the original scheduled launch date of 28 July has now been moved to August, but it will bring a host of new features.
Of note will be interactive watch faces, which will make use of a repurposed single-tap gesture for making aesthetic changes, switching between states and launching activities.
This will see a change to the way the phone’s voice-control launcher is activitated, from the current method of tapping the display to swiping from right to left.
Google is also said to be adding a new watch-to-watch communication function to Android Wear. Much like Apple lets you send doodles and heart-rate readings to other Apple Watch users, so Google wants to add a more direct communication feature.
“Together” will enable Android Wear users to send messages, stickers, emoji and doodles to one another.
There’s some confusion as to how this will be implemented, since it appears to be tied to a single watch face at present. If this is the case, it would mean cycling to a specific watch face every time you want to send a casual watch-to-watch message, which is hardly intuitive.

The report does claim that this information is “quite old,” so there’s little doubt over the fact that Google will have developed its ideas from the point stated.
