Android Pay has been knocking about for a while, but it’s been missing one key feature…

Google has now added support for in-app purchases to Android Pay.

Users can now take advantage of Google’s mobile payment platform to pay for goods within smartphone and tablet apps.

No more pulling out your credit card while on-the-go,” writes Pali Bhat, Director of Android Pay. “No more errors thanks to clumsy thumbs. Just tap the Android Pay button in the app, confirm your information, and you’re done!”

Bhat adds: “And just like your purchases in stores, Android Pay never shares your card details with merchants.”

Sixteen apps will support the new feature at launch, including Lyft, Hotel Tonight, Instacart, Parkwhiz and OpenTable.

Some of these partners are also offering deals for a “limited time” if you use Android Pay:

  • $20 off OpenTable dining
  • $10 off your Lyft ride
  • $10 off DoorDash
  • 30% off Vinted

If you’re a developer who wants to add Android Pay to your app, you can head over to the Android Pay API developer site to learn how.

The feature goes live on Android today, although do note that Android Pay is still only available in the US.

However, Google did announce plans to roll out the service to other countries, starting with Australia “in the first half of 2016”.
