Channel 4 has announced the launch of the 4oD Android app, with the on-demand service now available on Android smartphones and tablets.

Previously available for iOS users, Android handset owners can now stay up-to-date with their favourite Channel 4 shows, such as the Undateables and new series, Utopia, directly from their Google brimmed device.

The free 4oD Android app will allow Android users to watch a wide selection of Channel 4, E4 and More4 shows over a Wi-Fi network. Browsing for programmes by date, title, an A to Z list or a variety of categories, Android users will have access to over 30 years of memorable Channel 4 shows like Father Ted and the past 30 days of catch-up TV.

“We’re pleased to be able to extend our successful video-on-demand service to this range of modern Android devices with a dedicated 4oD app,” said Channel 4’s Head of Video on Demand. “Users will now be able to catch up on their favourite Channel 4 shows and enjoy many more classics from the Channel 4 archive via their smart phones and tablets.”

Available now to download on the Google Play store, Channel 4 have confirmed the 4oD app will be coming soon to the Samsung App Store. The Channel 4 video on demand service is currently optimised for a growing range of Android devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or better, including the Google Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC Desire S.

“This development continues our ongoing strategy of widening access to 4oD, with particular emphasis on supporting the increasing numbers of users who want to watch our programmes on portable devices.”
