Android 4.4 KitKat launch in October confirmed by Nestle

Nestle has confirmed that Android 4.4 KitKat is scheduled for a launch in October, potentially alongside the Google Nexus 5.

Revealing the news via the Nestle Germany page, the chocolate maker has announced an October launch for Google’s next mobile OS.

Nestle Germany replied to one Facebook user asking when Android KitKat would be making an official appearance.

“Android 4.4 KitKat is available from October”, came the reply from Nestle Germany.

Google unveiled Android 4.4 KitKat at the beginning of this month, revealing its next mobile OS would be named after one of its favourite chocolate treats rather than the Key Lime Pie everyone expected.

Despite revealing the name of the next iteration of Android, Google failed to offer any information on the OS’ launch date or any of its new features.

“Android is the operating system that powers over 1 billion smartphones and tablets. Since these devices make our lives so sweet, each Android version is named after a dessert: Cupcake, Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean,” reads the official site. “As everybody finds it so difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favourite chocolate treats, KitKat!”

A dual launch for Android 4.4 KitKat and the Nexus 5 has been tipped for October 14, with the next Google smartphone the first device to run the new OS.

The Nexus 5 is rumoured to pack a 5-inch Full HD screen powered by a 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM and a 2,300mAh battery.

Due to super-slim bezels and design influences from the LG G2, the Nexus 5 should actually be a bit smaller than the current Nexus 4, despite the larger screen.
