AMD today claimed that its latest graphics card, the AMD Radeon HD 7990, is the fastest in the world.

Speaking to journalists, AMD Product Manager Simon Ng explained how the dual-core architecture of the HD 7990 and the 6GB of DDR5 RAM combined to make it the only current graphics card which can run Crysis 3 as well as Tomb Raider at max settings in 3840 x 2160 ultra HD resolutions.

The Radeon HD 7990 will be available to purchase by the 7th May 2013 and will retail at £862.80 inclusive of VAT.

To showcasing AMD’s close relationship with games developers there will be eight games bundled with the card worth £197. These include recent releases such as BioShock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon and Crysis 3 but also some older titles such as Far Cry 3, Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs and Deus Ex Human Revolution.

While direct comparisons on the performance front were not made with Nvidia’s GeForce Titan graphics card there were comparisons on their noise levels with the HD 7990 coming out 3.4dBA quieter than its closest rival.

Direct comparisons were, however, made with Nvidia’s GTX 690, with charts showing that HD 7990 was ahead in all the games tested, particularly in a multi-display setup.

Other features of the graphics card include an automatic power saving mode which puts one of the cores to sleep when not playing games and Eyefinity, AMD’s multi-display technology, and will support up to five monitors being used in tandem.

Answering questions Simon Ng explained that the Radeon HD 7990 is comparable to two HD 7970 cards running in a Crossfire configuration. This would cost around £300 less than a single Radeon HD 7990.
