Amazon will pay you to sell games through Twitch
Twitch will now pay streamers a commission for games bought directly through their channel.
When Twitch first launched back in 2011, it was intended as a platform for video gamers to stream their gameplay to the world. So successful was it that Amazon purchased the company in 2014, overseeing the website’s rise to handling over 100 million visitors per month. Of course, it was only a matter of time until Amazon started working on new ways to monetise the service.
Fast-forward to today and Amazon is now making it possible to purchase video games directly through live streams. If you’re watching someone play Minecraft, for instance, then you’ll be able to buy that game through Twitch. Better still, partnered streamers who manage to flog these games will be paid a 5% cut of any revenue.
Twitch had more than 1.5 million individual broadcasters as of 2015
There will be 50 titles at launch, all of which are restricted to PC-only purchases. The majority of the games will be available through the Twitch desktop app, although some games will require third-party services. If you buy For Honor or Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands, for example, then you’ll need Uplay installed.
While the initial roster of supported games is fairly large, there are some notable omissions. For example, there aren’t any Blizzard games on the list, despite titles like World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, and Diablo 3 being amongst the most popular streamed games on Twitch. Still, there’s a good chance that the available roster of games will grow over time.
