Amazon has announced its new Kindle Paperwhite, pumping up the e-reader’s credentials with a new high-resolution display.
The new device boasts a 300 pixels per inch screen, which is twice the pixels on offer with the previous iteration.
The Kindle Paperwhite 2015 also ships with – wait for it – a brand-new font called “Bookerly.”
Amazon claims Bookerly is a typeface “crafted from the ground up” that is exclusive to the online retail giant.
It’s purportedly designed for ease of reading on digital screens, and is inspired “by the artistry of the best fonts in modern print books.”
The company has also redesigned the Kindle’s typesetting engine, to lay out words “just as the author intended”.
This includes hyphenation and improved word spacing, better character placement, and more dynamic drop-caps and images that adjust depending on text size changes.

Bezos added: “Together, these details help you read faster and with less eyestrain, so you can lose yourself in the author’s world.”
The new Kindle Paperwhite can be purchased for £109.99. There’s also a 3G version on offer for £169.99.
Pre-orders for the device kick off on 30 June. Amazon is peddling its new Paperwhite at amazon.co.uk, as well as Argos, Dixons, Tesco, John Lewis, Boots, and Sainsbury’s.
